Monday 5 november

Finaly it’s time! Today Rosalia (Rosa), our guest came out of Greece.

16:22 we stood together with all the other family’s ready to pick up all the foreign kids from the station in Hoogeveen. When Rosa stepped out of the train we recognized each other. After that we went to my home. Rosa was really tired from the trip, it was really impressive for her. When we where home I went upstairs with Rosa so she could drop off her luggage in my room. We had a welcome gift for Rosa under her bed. She took the gift downstairs and unpacked it immediately. We where chatting quite a lot to get to know each other better. My mother called us in for dinner. We ate potatoes fries, lettuce and chickenfilet. Rosa really like the potatoe fries. After dinner we went upstair early laying in bed, both of us where really tired.

Tuesday 6 november

At 07:00 my mother woke us up. We prepared for school. Rosa went on my mothers bicycle to school. It was quite funny, cause she isn’t familiar with cycling at her home, cause it’s not common. She was afraid because there where alot of people using the bicycle.

When we arrived at school we had to go to the TL-department in the centre of the school. De groups of cointained Italians, Spanish and Greeks. They where welcomed to our school here by our principal. Afterwards we had to introduce ourselves shorty in English. We made groups with two dutch, one greek, one italian and one spanish person. Afterwards we did a quiz. I was happy to hear that we after the quiz we had some time for ourselves. We had took a break and had lunch. Arround 13:00 we went to the city centrum of Hoogeveen. In the same groups we walked trough the centre. We had a panflet with questions and photo’s. We had to go to some stores where we had to take a photo of ourselves.

Every individual group had after the photo quest to the mill. We had some explaination about the history of the mill.

The man used impressive English. Arround 16:00 we had to take a group photo in Erasmus shirts in front of the townoffice. The photo was in the local newspaper.

Afterwards Rosa and I stayed in the city centre, cause Rosa wanted to buy some gifts for her friends from her own town. Before dinner we played a game Uno and Rummicub. We had amazing food, we ate pizza and just caught up. We headed upstairs to sleep in early cause the day was tiring.

Wednesday 7 november

At 07:00 my mother waked up up. We readied for school. When we where in school we had a conversation with our teachers. This was done in our own language. After that everyone went back to their group. We all worked on the endproduct, we had some parts, for example T.T. and Boomkroonpad, about which we had to answer questions. The 4th school our the schoolgroups went to normal lessons. This was for creating a real feeling of how things work arround here. At 13:15 we had a break. We left to historical camp for Westerbork. It was really impressive and sad, if you realise what happened there in the second world war. At 17:00 we where back at School. We went too Coevorden. My mother works at the restaurant there. So we went there to have dinner. Because my mother works there the chef’s allowed us to make our own desserts. Rosa really liked it. There was also coincidentally a traveling fair in Coevorden. Rosa wanted to go there, so after dinner we had a look on the fair. We drove home, and we were really tired. We went to bed.

Donderdag 8 november

After my mother woke us up we had breakfast. We freshend up and went on the bicycle to school. On school we had conversations with our teachers in our own language. After that we returned to our groups and worked on a project. This project was for designing a touristy place in The Netherlands. The clue was to find something that isn’t in The Netherlands. After the break we took the bus and went to Wildlands in Emmen. Wildlands is a Zoo but there are a few attractions like a rollercoaster. You could also take a boat that floated trough the Jungola, een fake jungle that looked really real! After Wildlands we went home to eat. Later the evening we went straight up to bed. We where really tired of the day.

Friday 9 november

Today we woke up extra early because it was Rosa’s birthday!! We had already made the room really festive and put on festoons. We had breakfast and congratulated her. We gave some gifts to her. We had a card and a zilver bracelet with the infinity logo. Around 09:00 we took the bicycle and cycled school. At 09:00 we had a evaluation on school. From 09:15 till 12:00 a clock we had presatations about their own designed touristic attractions. After the lunch we went to the Bonte Wever in Assen, it’s a subtropical swimparadise. After a lovely day of swimming and bubbeling we went home at 16:30 with the bus. When we were at home, Rosa proposed to cook for us. She made a delicious panbread. As dessert she made crepes with ice cream, whipped cream and lots of chocolate! It was extremely delicious and because it was Rosa’s birthday we also ate a cake later that evening. Later that night we went upstairs en prepared our bags for the next day, because the next morning we had absolutely no time for that. We had to be at school at 7:30 so we went to bed quickly.

Zaterdag 10 november

We had to wake up at 6:30, because we were expected to be at school at 7:30. The bus left at 8:00 towards our capitol: Amsterdam. When we arrived we immediately visited “Nemo” a Science Museum. At 12:00 we had to be out again. An hour boattrip was planned for us through the canals of Amsterdam. After we had our boattrip we walked to the center of Amsterdam. It was around 13:30 so we had around two free hours explore and do some shopping. Around 15:30 everybody was back at the meeting place and we walked back to the bus. Around 16:00 we drove back to Hoogeveen. When the clock hit 6 we arrived back at school. After we got home again we had to prepare for the farewell party planned at school which was around 19:30. When we arrived we had a large meal with an entree, main dish and dessert. After the meal we went for a dance and everybody joined in. It was a pity the dancing stopped after a while. Everybody had to take places at the sides, since certificates were handed out. Rosa was the first to receive one. Afterwards everybody started to already say their goodbyes, since they were leaving tomorrow. Many had to shed a few tears already. At last we started to clean a bit and finally everybody went home. When we went to bed we talked a bit, but already soon we fell asleep, unfortunately we were too tired.

Sunday 11th of November

The day of saying goodbye… Today is already the last day of a short but incredible good week. Rosa and the other foreign guests went back to their countries and families. Rosa was already awake early and had to cry constantly because she didn’t want to go home, she really liked it here. My mom had to wake me up around 10.30am, because i was still sleeping. It was time to get the last few things ready and prepare to leave.  Rosa couldn’t find all of her stuff in her suitcase, because she bought so much stuff and received so many gifts, so we gave her an extra bag as handluggage. When we arrived at the trainstration there were already a lot of families. Lots of people were sad, hugging each other and crying. Lots of last memory pictures were taken and one big hug was given, before we had to part ways. Everyone had to pass the gates one by one and we could see them one last time on the other side of the platform before the train arrived. Everyone got on and found a place in the double train. We waved one last time to each other and gave each other hand kisses while they left. All in all very strange, quiet and very sad. We all went home without our foreign guests. We immediately missed Rosa. It was an extremely beautiful experience which i will never forget. I hope to meet a lot of these exciting people again, when i go on adventure in April to Italy!!!
